Oakley Networks Launches SureView,
The first total-coverage technology for preventing data leaks

Backed by Kleiner Perkins and Fidelity Ventures, Oakley enters Commercial Enterprise Market

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Dec. 12, 2005 – Oakley Networks, Inc., the leader in information leakage detection and prevention in the Federal market, today announced the launch of its new commercial product, SureView™, which enables enterprises to build and enforce insider threat policies to prevent exposure of intellectual property, private data and regulated information. Oakley Networks, founded in 2001, received over $16 million in funding from investors Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers and Fidelity Ventures.

“Securing the enterprise from insider threats and preventing the leakage of information is the last remaining hole to fill in enterprise IT security.” said Ted Schlein, Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and a member of Oakley’s Board of Directors. ”We believe that every enterprise will need to address this urgent issue to assure their stakeholders that confidential data is secure. Before investing in Oakley Networks, KP evaluated all of the vendors in the market, and we felt that Oakley Networks had the only complete solution, a superior technology approach and the team required to be a market leader.”

Oakley Networks’ SureView offers the total coverage of corporate communication applications and the richest set of detection capabilities available on the market today. SureView protects critical data by providing real-time alerts of harmful data leakage from desktop applications that are vulnerable, such as: eMail, WebMail, Instant Messaging , Web Browsers, MS Office, Clipboard, File System, USB Storage, CD.DVD, Printing and Encryption ( SSL,PGP, S/MIME). SureView analyzes this event data against operator-defined and pre-packaged policies to quickly identify potential breaches.

Upon detection of policy violations, SureView immediately alerts the enterprise, providing it with the ability to respond to the event using the company’s patent-pending SurePlay™ replay feature. SurePlay allows the enterprise to understand the context of the alert– so that quick determinations can be made about whether an incident involves acceptable usage or nefarious activity. SurePlay then provides the basis for immediate action as well as support for evidentiary proceedings.

SureView’s agent-based technology is also uniquely able to alert the enterprise to policy violations occurring within encrypted data, including encrypted web sessions. This feature enables companies to analyze data before it is encrypted, or after it is decrypted, which is essential to protecting enterprises as malicious insiders often use encryption to conceal illicit activity.

According to Gartner, more than 80 percent of high-cost security incidents occur when data from inside the organization gets out. With confidential customer data and intellectual property only a keystroke away from dissemination, virtually every organization is at risk.

“The belief that perimeter defenses such as firewalls and IDS alone are adequate to protect confidential data and intellectual property is outdated and risky,” said Oakley Networks CEO and co-founder Derek Smith.“Our work with enterprise customers during the past three years has underscored just how vulnerable most large organizations are to information leakage because of their reliance on partial solutions. With the release of our new commercial product, we provide customers with the first total-coverage solution to prevent data leakage across a globally dispersed enterprise, including suppliers, vendors, contractors and partners.”
